Imperial Guard Regiment Concept Art
| Figure 16 |
I want to look at other peoples concept art in order to influence my own design. In the backstory for my
game idea, the Insurgents are those that have managed to escape the labour factories and the harsh
rule of the ships religious police. The only place out of the ships guard reach is the lower levels, the
reason for this is because it's an abandoned sub section full of toxic gas, unstable terrain and mutated
creatures. Due to the fact that the Insurgents use this place as a place of safety they need equipment
and weapons that help then live in these harsh conditions.

This is an image of an Imperial Guard from the 40k universe, they come in all different designs
depending on their purpose and what war zone they are fighting in, Figure 16. These ones in particular
fight in toxic trenches and against people who use chemical weapons. The design seems to be very
World War 2 inspired as they make use of the trench coat and the helmet that you would typically see
on a German soldier. But the part that I like the most is the gas mask, it doesn't look super high tech
and instead it looks like it's a mass produced piece of equipment that comes standard issue for every
soldier.
It doesn't look like it would get in the way of the user in the middle of a firefight and it looks like it's easy
to see out of and move around. The box it's attached to is what i assume to be the filter, I can't decide if
that's convenient or not but it definitely looks cool. The colour scheme is what you would expect really,
designed to blend in to the environment and to not look too flashy. There is very little armour on this
character, this means that he is either designed to move quickly or in the universe, they just can't
afford to give everyone good armour. This is a point that I might use when designing my Insurgence
troops, as i doubt they have access to the full range of weapons and armour that the ships Guard
might have, unless they steal some.

The red on the shoulder pads definitely draw the eye to those parts, it's not a feature that is designed
for combat, more for show if they were marching in formation or on parade. This character also has a
lot of metal icons which help show who they serve/fight for, I don't think ill use that for my design as it
would be more likely for them to make use of crude markings or armour paint to show which group
they serve.
