Temple Archway Model - So far

Temple Archway Model

This is the temple Archway model that I have been creating for the room, using some concept art that
I made earlier as a reference. I started by getting the measurements for the size using a basic box on
my temple blockout, then I wrote that down and made sure my archway image on a plane is that size.
This should mean that when I merge this file into the scene it will be the correct size. Next I used
another basic box to make the top of the archway and a cylinder to create the pillar that holds it up.
All I need to do now is create the bend for the arch and figure out how i want to add the detail to the
model. I could import it into mudbox and use that to add some surface detail but i'm not confident on
my ability to lower the poly count when it comes to importing it back to 3ds Max. Another option would
be to use Substance painter to add some detailed textures which is important whether or not the
model goes into Mudbox i guess. I think keeping it simple whilst i decide is a good choice.

Block Out for the Temple (3DS Max) - So Far

Block Out for the Temple (3DS Max)

I started to create the 3D blockout for my temple in 3ds Max, using my level map that i had created as
a guide to the general size and layout of the room. I used a basic box shape for the floor and then
used an Edit Poly modifier to extrude two parts near the entrance of the temple to create a wall guide.
After that I created a biped to represent my character during the animation and so i can scale all of
the objects in the scene correctly. I made a mistake by having the room be huge. I thought it was fine
until I checked the size on the axis and it was in the hundreds of thousands. To fix this I just easily
used the scale tool and made the rooms size more appropriate. My biggest concern was that the
room would be too small for the character or that i would make the character too small to animate or
see in the render but i don't think that will be an issue.

In the next picture you might notice that the room is now wider and longer, not larger in total like it was
before but i thought it needed an extension to really make it feel like a large area. The reason it's in
colour is because i wanted to show the raised platform that starts on the white section and continues
to the end of the room, this is where the stairs are going to go and from that the giant statue to the
god will be placed. Because i have the basic shape almost completed i'm going to move onto
designing the models to go into the room and how i am going to unwrap and texture the whole thing.
The poly count is pretty low so far and i want to try and keep it at a stable level due to the animating
that i need to do when i add the characters into the scene.

Frank Frazetta - Art (Unfinished)

Frank Frazetta

I wanted to look at some artists to help me create the theme and look for a view key elements in my
fantasy Temple, the one that stood out for me was work created by Frank Frazetta. Obviously i can't
replicate his work due to my lack of any actual drawing skills but i wanted to look at his way of
portraying people and creatures and how he manages to make them look the way they do.
I believe this poster was created by Frank Frazetta for the TV series Battlestar Galactica. Whilst the
show is not really related to my work i just like the overall design of the poster, the figure in the
background looks mysterious and otherworldly when you compare it to the characters in the front. I
like how the cape covers any other details about the character apart from the face that looks uncaring
and dangerous, this blend of hiding a character whilst showing something else about them is always
cool to try and implement into a personal design. The temple guards are supposed to be an unknown
force that protects and serves the God of Dreams. The use of a cloak on these creatures will make
people question what they actually are when they see them. The colour scheme looks interesting, it
uses very bright colours but they have been muted down to not overpower anything else in the scene.

Another one of his works is a painting of the ‘Death Dealer’. In Terms of the mystical look that I talked
about in the previous example, there isn't a huge focus on the mystical element as we can identify
what everything in the scene is apart from the character's face. But the picture does make you
wonder what the story behind it all is, this is something i want to try and use for my temple
environment as it will hopefully look like a temple and can be identified as that but with some
unknown elements that make people wonder. The most important element of the picture is probably
the eyes of the character, everything else is blended and toned down due to Frank’s style of
painting. The eyes are bright and stand out because of this, because the character is looking directly
at the viewer and we can't identify a face. It adds an aggressive element to the picture without
showing any real violence.

Script Draft - One - Temple to the God of Dreams

Int/Inside the Temple
Scene 1  - Shot 1

Medium shot of the entrance to the temple, the camera slowly zooms in to the double doors. The
sound of the latch being opened will cut the silence in the scene.

Scene 1  - Shot 2

Close shot of the door swinging open and someone's feet step into frame.

Scene 1  - Shot 3

Close to medium over the shoulder shot as the unknown character walks forwards.

Scene 1  - Shot 4

Wide shot from above as the unknown character walks up the stairs and into the centre of the temple.

Scene 1 - Shot 5
